How do I carry out a risk assessment?

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to identify what could cause injury or illness; decide how likely it is that harm may be caused, and take action to eliminate the hazard, control the risk.

There are five steps to carrying out a risk assessment. You must appoint a competent person to:

    1. Identify hazards
    2. Assess the risks
    3. Control the risks
    4. Record your findings
    5. Review the controls

The risk assessment should consider the risks to employees, including vulnerable workers and others who are likely to be present, such as contractors, cleaners and members of the public.

We have many years’ experience completing risk assessments within a vast number of industries. For assistance with your risk assessments from one of our consultants, please contact us.
